OK, a few disclamers. Well, one, really - i've been in a bit of a strange mood this evening. I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but i get this feeling in the pit of my chest and it just swells up and i can't stand it and i have to go walk around or laugh insanely or bite my knuckle or something, because i just can't keep whatever the feeling is bottled up inside. It can be while listening to music or reading or watching a movie or whatever.....my own personal little mania, i guess

Anyway, when i got home from tutoring this evening i got my pizza dinner (mmmm....zachary's) and sat down to watch 8 mile, which i've been looking forward to seeing and which you probably knew i've had from netflix for the past week. Anyway, I'm going to tell you it's one of the best movies i've seen in a while - easily the past year or two - but you may feel free to take that with a grain of salt, given the mood i was talking about before. Regardless, the movie is intense. It just keeps throwing more and more at you in the same way that 1 does. The acting is really quite good (yes, even eminem, you cynics), though the movie is just as much setting- and presence-driven as dialog. I'm no big rap fan, but the music is integrated in way that few other movies bother to do with their soundtrack, and the result is that you could hate rap and still get into it. And honestly, it may be a "coming of age" movie, but it's the most original coming of age movie i've seen since American Beauty.
OK, some of you know i'm stupid about movie ends, but i still want to say: it ends in such a way that left me saying "what? that's the end? In retrospect, it's a great ending, but like the rest of the movie, it kind of hits you in the gut before you realize you like it.

Anyway, i think you should see it. yes, you. I'll probably buy it. and probably join the "Brittany Murphy is hot" club too. But you could have guessed that.

Elizabeth's going back to Ojai for a couple of days tomorrow evening, so either i'll be posting a lot more or a lot less, depending on where my mood goes.

OK, i've already broken my resolve to post every day, but there's actually a good reason for it! i'm tired of this pre-built blog template and am thus immersing myself in blogger code and catching up on all the CSS i never learned (which is pretty much all of it) so that i can make the web page I want. big thanks go to emma who's webpage taught me (by stealing and playing with her css code) how to lay things out exactly the way i want them to be. it's an amazing thing.....

a co-worker just passed this on to me, and I had to post it to prove the point, once again..... you can sell anything on eBay. Talk about your "rare" collector's item.....we only give one out with EVERY sale!

war. as usual, i'm refuse to make up my mind before I can know the facts surrounding the subject, so i have no firm opinion on the whole good war/bad war thing. But as heritage to my Oberlin upbringing, this sort of stuff bugs the hell out of me. It's not the movement - like i said, i have no firm opinion on the war. But the "i want to sound radical" language, especially because I bet 70% of the people at the march are there to look good/feel important/get laid rather than present real, well-thought out political views. phew. with that out of my system, i feel no need to complain about John being out sick again today. If you have an iPod, check out the battery update that was released today.

8 mile came out on DVD yesterday. So if I can ever remember to send _Wrath of Khan_ back to NetFlix, we'll even get to see it. I wasn't sure if i wanted to or not until the fresh air movie reviewer called in one of the 10 best of the year, but soon enough I'll jot down my own impressions, just for you, my invisible audience of zero. I did see "The Recruit" last week, and would recommend it; it's pretty original, definately unpredictable (unless you've seen the trailer), and quite fun. I thought the girl co-star in it was particularly good, and she hasn't been in _anything_ before, pretty much. So go see it, or something. wrath of khan, BTW, was particularly wonderful in that TOS wonderful kind of way. I almost miss it.......nah, not really, back to TNG season 5. or, more precisely, back to work.

I have decided that I need to get into the habit of updating a web page on a regular basis. Thus, I intend to updated my blog at least once every day, even if it is with innane stuff, simply to be posting. I am posting this with iBlog, 0.85. I like the idea of an application to post things into my blog rather than having to load the blogger website every time. That is, as long as it works as well. In more mundane news, I went to ColdStone creamery for the first time today. I had their cake batter ice cream, which really and truely tastes like cake batter. I don't actually recommend it in a cup, as it was almost too dry, but I bet a milkshake would be heaven on earth. goodnight.

Righto! Time to try this blogging thing out. At some point last year I was trying to do this sans software help, but html is no fun at all and thus thank goodness for blogger.com. Of course, right now things are not too pretty, or at least customized, but perhaps this will change. Perhaps more content will appear here as well. That's enough to test how this will look. Be back soon!
