Suggested Language Names
The following is an alphabetical listing of suggested names to replace the old name Object X. Of course Opal won out. After each name is a comment to explain it. If their is no comment assume it just sounded cool.
Names:
- Atom - everything is made of objects, like everything is made of atoms. Indivisible
- BOOST - Bettering Object Oriented Standard Technology
- Diamond
- IOOS - Improving Object Oriented Standards
- Objectivity
- Objectus - Latin for object.
- Omicron - Greek Letter O, Greek because that is the alphabet of Lambda, O for Object.
- Objex - shortening of Object X (Jules Milner-Brage)
- Color names - use a bunch of colors close to each other
- Mountain names - names in a given mountain range
Well, it turns out there is a very small langauge already called Opal as well as someone working on a new language named Opal at www.opal-lang.org. So I am again considering new names though not set on changing. Here is some new suggestions then.
New Names:
- something literary?
- Granite
- objx - a shorting of Objex
- Marble - is taken
- Oynx - is taken
- SiO2 - the chemical makeup of Opal and Onyx (but also quartz and many other things)
- Ore
- Ozark - as in the mountain range
