CSCI 150: PreLab 2
The
Basics
Due:
9AM
on
Wednesday,
September 11th
In this prelab, we will do some course set up, including filling out a questionaire about yourself and going over the syllabus. Future prelabs will prepare you for the lab you will do that week.
Please turn in your solution on Gradescope. You can either turn it in as a PDF (e.g., saving a document as a PDF in Word), take a picture (e.g., with a smartphone), or scan it (e.g., at the library) to hand it in. Please remember, no late prelabs allowed!
Part 1: Reading
Each prelab will include a short non-technical reading assignment. The first of these comes from a coding bootcamp and deals with expectations about behavior and etiquette in the lab. Our department is dedicated to fostering a warm, encouraging, and supportive student community. This reading is meant to help (a) lay out some basic ground rules that help build a welcoming community and (b) draw attention to some of the phenomena (e.g. Imposter Syndrome) that often make people feel isolated or inadequate.
Read the Recurse Center's guide to the environment.
Part 2: Questionaire
Fill out this Questionaire. This will be used to form your class discussion group, as well as giving me some background information about you and why you're taking this course.
Part 3: Syllabus
The answers to all of the following questions can be found on the syllabus or the course information page. Please take some time to read them and then answer the following:
4. You become extremely ill and will need to miss more than your three excused absenses. What should you do?
5. What is the maximum number of labs you could turn in one day late?
6.You read the line below on the course schedule. By what date and time do you have to complete the exercises in section 5.1 of the textbook?
7. What days of the week do we NOT have lab helpers available?
8. If you would like a free, personal tutor for this class, who do you talk to?
